better living through chemicals

It's been a bizarro week.

Last weekend we had our poomse competition. None of us finished first in our first pairings so we were all out pretty early. I think I came in a very close 2nd. Note that we don't get to see our own scores. I'll hand it to the guy who took first. I honestly believe he did better than I did. Lesson learned for me: deeper stances. I think I executed with more precision but he was WAY deep in his stances. My personal goal is to beat him next time....about 6 months from now assuming we get paired up again.

I left on a business trip on Monday to Toronto, Canada. I've been with my current employer for 9 years and this was my first trip for them. It was pretty much a last minute deal that I had to get everything in order pretty quickly. Lucky for me, I had received my passport about 4 weeks earlier.

The first day was all meetings. Towards the end of the day, I started feeling a bit achy around the neck. I wasn't sure if it was just the idea of sitting in a chair all day or if I was actually getting sick. I started popping advil every 6 hours and managed to maintain a good demeanor most of the time. Since I was the one with rental car, I had to be the driver for the night time events. I know I was running a mild fever most of the time. The whole sickness finally overcame my defenses on Friday night and I crashed for a good 18 hours not waking up again until 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The highlight of the trip was dinner atop La Tour CN. Our hosts were very gracious and this easily has to be the best business dinner I've ever had.
